European Leonard Peltier Commemoration Month endet/ends. (german/english)

english version

More than 20 actions and events (vigils, rallies, readings, etc.) in 13 cities from 5 European countries, plus numerous online publications, a letter campaign to U.S. President J. Biden and in copy to numerous other U.S. representatives and European embassies in the U.S., newspaper ads in German daily newspapers with a total circulation of nearly 100,000 copies and two YouTube premieres, this is the short balance of this year’s European Leonard Peltier Commemoration Month. The cooperative project, in which numerous groups from European Mumia Abu-Jamal alliances, the Society for Threatened Peoples and the Friendship Society FRG-Cuba also participated, reached many thousands of passers-by between June 17 and July 17. The event reached thousands of passers-by, tens of thousands of newspaper readers, and thousands of YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and website visitors, and informed them about the fate of Leonard Peltier (77), an indigenous political prisoner who has been imprisoned since 1976, and who has spent more than 46 years in prison, according to all the information available to us, Peltier (77) has been innocently held hostage for more than 46 years to prevent Indigenous and other committed people from fighting for their issues and rights, and to prevent the FBI’s criminal intelligence operations in crushing social movements and murdering Indigenous people from becoming known.

Numerous signatures for Peltier’s freedom were collected during the month of action. Due to the newspaper ads, about 500 postcards of the previous year’s postcard action to the White House were reordered and partly also signed at street actions. In Düsseldorf, many citizens wrote their wishes for freedom and greetings on colorful ribbons and in the end had a 47m long wish line along the banks of the Rhine with wishes for freedom for Leonard Peltier.

We thank all participating groups from Switzerland – International Committee for the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas (Incomindios), Italy – Comitato die Solidarieta con Leonard Peltier, Spain – Comité Solidaritat amb Leonard Peltier, France -Comité de Solidarité avec les Indiens des Amériques (CSIA-NITASSINAN) and Germany – Tokata-LPSG RheinMain e.V.- Verein zur Unterstützung indigener Sozial-, Kultur-, Umwelt- und Menschenrechts-Projekte & Leonard Peltier Support Group and the activists involved here as well as the European Alliance for the Self Determination of Indigenous PeopleS and our partners in the USA, among others the International Leonard Peltier Defence Committee and the Oglala Commemoration Committee, AIM Grassroots South Dakota, Lakota Peoples Law Project as well as the LPDC Canada.
