Die ersten Petitionen haben ihre Eingabemöglichkeiten aufgrund des Wochenendes bereits beendet, denn am Montag, den 10. Juni findet die Bewahrungsanhörung für Leonard Peltier statt und bis dahin sollten die Kommission, Leonards Anwälte und auch Leonard selbst sowie eine interessierte Öffentnlichkeit wissen, wie die Unterstützung in der Kampagne aussah.
Die Online-Petitionen von Amnesty International Deutschland (2.808) Change.Org (1.164), des NDN Collectics (26.745) und von AIM-GGC/Lakota Peoples Law Project (7.032) brachten bislang 37.749 Unterschriften für Peltiers Freiheit (Stand: 8.6.2024, 11:30 Unr MEZ/CET).
Hinzu kommen aus der Kampagne von EUROPE FOR PELTIER COALITION weitere 231 Briefe (davon von 17 Organisationen) mit über 300 Unterschriften sowie Unterschriftenlisten mit 717 Unterschriften, also nochmals ca. 1000 Unterschriften für die Freiheit Leonard Peltiers, so daß dies ca. 39.000 Unterschriften insgesamt sind. Hierfür allen Organisationen und Organisator*innen großen Dank, auch im Name von Leonard und dessen Anwälten Kevin Sharp und Jenipher Jones.
Wenn am 10. Juni das US Parole Commission Hearing stattfindet, hat die Kommission anschließend 21 Tage (3 Wochen) Zeit ihre Entscheidung bekannt zu geben (kann bis auf 30 Tage verlängert werden). In dieser Zeit und auch danach bitte keine weiteren Schreiben, Anrufe oder Emails mehr an die Kommission tätigen, dies wäre eher kontraproduktiv. Zu der US. News: Unsere Hoffnung, dass als Zeuge für Peltier der frühere aufsichtführende Staatsanwalt und heutige Befürworter von Peltiers Freiheit, James Reynolds, bei der Anhörung aussagen wird, wurde enttäuscht. Wie uns Kevin Sharp heute Nacht mitteilte, wurden mehrere Fürsprecher Peltiers von der Kommision abgelehnt, darunter auch ein Arzt. Auf der anderen Seite beharrt das FBI auf seinen alten Lügen und selbstfabrizierten Narrativen über Peltiers Schuld. Diese Linie lässt sich seit Äußerungen des derzeitigen FBI-Direktors Christopher Wray im Frühjahr 2023 (25.3.2023) erkennen. Der ursprüngliche Optimismus war bei dem Gespräch mit Kevin Sharp auch entsprechend gedämpft. Es wird eine harte Anhörung geben, Ausgang ungewiss, so Sharp. Auf eine Rückmeldung von Jenipher Jones warten wir derzeit noch. Und auch Leonard sieht dies im Moment ziemlich realistisch, wie ihr aus einem unten folgenden Ausschnitt einer Email an uns sehen könnt. Dennoch, die Hoffnung stirbt zu letzt. Wir werden über den Ablauf der Verhandlung durch Leonards Anwälte informiert und nehmen am Dienstag dann an einer Zoom-Konferenz hierzu teil. Danach werden wir euch informieren. Bitte seht davon ab, individuell oder als Gruppen die Anwälte anzusprechen. Diese arbeiten derzeit auf Hochtouren. Wir leiten die Infos europaweit weiter.
Und wir müssen alle Geduld aufbringen, bis die Entscheidung feststeht. Es wird für Leonard, seine Familie, Freunde und Unterstützer die wahre Hölle sein. Dennoch gehen die Vorbereitungen für die nächsten Kampagnen weiter. So findet am 26.6.2024 der 49. Jahrestag des Schusswechsels bei Oglala statt, der sogenannte Oglala Commemoration Day, seit 2013 auch Leonard Peltier Day. Hierzu werden wir uns ebenfalls mit Aktionen vorbereiten. Und natürlich hoffen wir, dass Leonard dann ein auf Bewährung freier Mann sein wird.
Abgelehnt worden ist u.a. auch wieder auf Grund des Drucks des FBI das letzte anhängige Compassionate Release Verfahren (Freilassung aus mitfühlenden Gründen), von dem wir noch vor kurzem berichteten. Nach Bekanntgabe der USPC-Entscheidung wird im Falle einer Ablehnung nicht nur Widerspruch eingelegt, sondern auch ein neuer Antrag auf Compassionate Release gestellt. The first petitions have already closed for the weekend, as the Leonard Peltier preservation hearing will take place on Monday 10 June and by then the Commission, Leonard’s lawyers and Leonard himself, as well as the interested public, should know what the support in the campaign was like.
The online petitions from Amnesty International Germany (2,808) Change.Org (1,164), NDN Collectics (26,745) and AIM-GGC/Lakota Peoples Law Project (7,032) have so far brought 37,749 signatures for Peltier’s freedom (as of 8 June 2024, 11:30 am CET).
In addition, the EUROPE FOR PELTIER COALITION campaign has added another 231 letters (from 17 organisations) with over 300 signatures and signature lists with 717 signatures, i.e. another 1000 signatures for Leonard Peltier’s freedom, bringing the total to around 39,000 signatures. When the US Parole Commission hearing takes place on 10 June, the Commission will have 21 days (3 weeks) to announce its decision ( maximum 30 days on request). News: Our hope that the witness for Peltier at the hearing would be former supervising prosecutor and current supporter of Peltier’s freedom, James Reynolds, has been dashed. As Kevin Sharp told us tonight, several of Peltier’s advocates were rejected by the commission, including a doctor. On the other hand, the FBI is sticking to its old lies and self-fabricated narratives about Peltier’s guilt. This line has been evident since statements made by the current FBI Director Christopher Wray in spring 2023 (25 March 2023). The original optimism was dampened accordingly during the conversation with Kevin Sharp. There will be a tough hearing, outcome uncertain, according to Sharp. We are still waiting to hear back from Jenipher Jones. And Leonard is also quite realistic about this at the moment, as you can see from an excerpt from an email to us below. Nevertheless, hope dies last. We will be informed about the course of the trial by Leonard’s lawyers and will then take part in a Zoom conference on Tuesday. We will inform you afterwards. And we must all be patient until the decision is finalised. It will be a real hell for Leonard, his family, friends and supporters. Nevertheless, preparations for the next campaigns continue. On 26 June 2024, the 49th anniversary of the shooting at Oglala will take place, the so-called Oglala Commemoration Day, also known as Leonard Peltier Day since 2013. We will also be preparing for this with campaigns. And of course we hope that Leonard will then be a man free on parole.

Notizie: la nostra speranza che il testimone per Peltier all’udienza fosse l’ex procuratore capo e attuale sostenitore della libertà di Peltier, James Reynolds, è stata disattesa. Come ci ha detto stasera Kevin Sharp, diversi sostenitori di Peltier sono stati respinti dalla commissione, tra cui un medico. D’altro canto, l’FBI si attiene alle sue vecchie menzogne e alle narrazioni autoconclusive sulla colpevolezza di Peltier. L’ottimismo iniziale è stato smorzato di conseguenza durante la conversazione con Kevin Sharp. Secondo Sharp ci sarà un’udienza difficile, dall’esito incerto. Stiamo ancora aspettando una risposta da Jenipher Jones. E anche Leonard è piuttosto realista al momento, come si può vedere da un estratto di un’e-mail che ci è stata inviata qui sotto. Tuttavia, la speranza muore per ultima. Saremo informati sullo svolgimento del processo dagli avvocati di Leonard e parteciperemo a una conferenza Zoom martedì. Vi informeremo in seguito. Vi preghiamo di non contattare gli avvocati individualmente o in gruppo. Al momento stanno lavorando a pieno ritmo. Stiamo trasmettendo le informazioni in tutta Europa.
