European for Peltier – YouTube-Presentation am 27.2.2023 (German/English)
Am 6. Februar 2023 jährte sich zum 47. Mal die Inhaftierung des langjährigen indigenen politischen Gefangenen Leonard Peltier. Dies war Anlass für Peltier-Unterstützer aus allen Teilen der Welt, erneut aktiv zu werden und US-Präsident Joe Biden aufzufordern, den inzwischen 78-jährigen Gefangenen durch eine Begnadigung aus dem Gefängnis zu entlassen. In der zehnminütigen Diashow zeigen wir Impressionen aus 12 europäischen Orten sowie Plakate aus den USA. In Europa waren die Aktionen Teil einer mehr als zweimonatigen Kampagne, die die Jahrestage von Wounded Knee 1890 (29.12.1890) mit dem Tag von Peltiers Inhaftierung (6.2.1976) und Wounded Knee II (27.2.1973) verband. Live-Aktionen fanden in Frankreich, Italien und Deutschland statt. Auch Aktivisten aus der Schweiz und Österreich beteiligten sich an den Aktionen. Die nächste europaweite Aktionskampagne für Leonard Peltier wird voraussichtlich anlässlich des Oglala-Gedenktages (26.6.) stattfinden. 6 February 2023 marked the 47th anniversary of the imprisonment of long-term Indigenous political prisoner Leonard Peltier. This marked the end of 47 years of imprisonment and the beginning of the 48th year. This was a reason for Peltier supporters from all parts of the world to become active again and to demand that US President Joe Biden release the now 78-year-old prisoner from prison by means of a pardon. In the ten-minute slideshow we show impressions from 12 European locations as well as posters from the USA. In Europe, the actions were part of a more than two-month campaign linking the anniversaries of Wounded Knee 1890 (29.12.1890) with Peltier’s imprisonment day (6.2.1976) and Wounded Knee II (27.2.1973). Live actions took place in France, Italy and Germany. Activists from Switzerland and Austria also took part in activities. The next European-wide action campaign for Leonard Peltier will probably take place on the occasion of the Oglala Commemoration Day (26.6.).
