4 Minuten und 18 Sekunden musikalisch unterlegte Bilder, d.h. ganze 258 Sekunden gewidmet jenem Mann, dessen Leben am 12. September 2.428.272.019 besteht: Leonard Peltier. Und nun wird Leonard Peltier am 12.9.2022 achtundsiebzig Jahre alt. Von diesen 78 Jahren verbringt der indigene politische Gefangene, der am 6.2.1976 festgenommen wurde über 46 Jahre in Haft. 46 Geburtstage seines Lebens in Haft. Verfolgt, festgenommen in Kanada, ausgeliefert an die USA, verurteilt und anhaltend inhaftiert wurde der AIM-Aktivist aufgrund einer der skandalösesten Polizei-, Justiz- und Politikvorgehen im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert: Manipulierte Anklagebeweise, vorenthaltende Entlastungsbeweise, Ermittlungsdokumente unter Verschluss, Zeugenaussagen erpresst mit physische und psychischer Gewalt, eine parteiische Gerichtsverhandlung führten zum Vollzug der bereits längst vorab beschlossenen VorVerurteilung Peltiers. Selbst am Verfahren beteiligte Richter und Staatsanwälte räumen ein, dass es keine Beweise für eine Schuld Peltiers gäbe. Der zuständige Staatsanwalt bittet US-Präsidenten Biden um Freilassung von Peltier und bezeichnet das gtesamte Verfahren, für das er die Aufsicht hatte als unfair und falsch. Immer mehr Politiker aus dem Kongress fordern Peltiers Freiheit. Und aktuell hat die UN-Arbeitsgruppe für diskriminierende Inhaftierungen die Verurteilung und anhaltende Inhaftierung Peltiers kritisiert und die US-Regierung um Stellungnahme bzw. Freilassung Peltiers aufgefordert. All dies steht in Tradition von zahlreichen parlamentarischen Erklärungen z.B. seitens des Europaparlaments und auch Belgiens, Peltier freizulassen. Noch nie hat so viel Prominenz aus Kunst & Kultur, Wissenschaft & Politik, Religion, Nobelpreisträger*innen sich für die Freiheit eines Gefangenen eingesetzt. Viele Millionen Menschen haben im Laufe der Jahre an die US-Regierung appelliert Peltier aus der Haft zu entlassen. Der Aufschrei der sogenannten “freien Welt” wäre groß und unüberhörbar, würde dies zum Beispiel in Russland oder der VR China passieren. Doch an den Verantwortlichen in den USA scheinen all die Appelle, Bitten, alles Flehen und Fordern, alle Gebete abzuperlen wie an einer Teflon-Schicht.  4 minutes and 18 seconds of musically accompanied images, that is, a whole 258 seconds dedicated to that man whose life exists on September 12, 2,428,272,019: Leonard Peltier. And now Leonard Peltier becomes seventy-eight years old on 12.9.2022. Of these 78 years, the indigenous political prisoner, who was arrested on 2/6/1976, spends over 46 years in prison. 46 birthdays of his life in detention. Prosecuted, arrested in Canada, extradited to the U.S., convicted and persistently imprisoned, the AIM activist has been held on one of the most scandalous police, judicial and political prosecutions of the 20th and 21st centuries: Manipulated prosecution evidence, withholding exculpatory evidence, investigation documents under lock and key, witness testimonies blackmailed with physical and psychological violence, a biased trial led to the execution of Peltier’s pre-conviction, which had already been decided in advance. Even judges and prosecutors involved in the proceedings have conceded for decades that there is no evidence that Peltier was involved in the crime. The prosecutor in charge of the case is asking U.S. President Biden to release Peltier, calling the entire trial, which he oversaw, unfair and wrong. More and more politicians from Congress are demanding Peltier’s freedom. And currently, the U.N. Working Group on Discriminatory Detention has criticized Peltier’s conviction and continued imprisonment and has called on the U.S. government to take a stand or release Peltier. All this is in the tradition of numerous parliamentary statements of the European Parliament and also Belgium, to release Peltier. Never before has so much prominence from art & culture, science & politics, religion, Nobel Prize winners* stood up for the freedom of a prisoner. Many millions of people have appealed to the U.S. government over the years to release Peltier from prison. The outcry of the so-called “free world” would be great and unmistakable if this were to happen in Russia or the PR China, for example. But all the appeals, requests, pleas and prayers seem to roll off the responsible people in the USA like a layer of Teflon. Where and when will be justice?
