(German/English) Übersichtsliste europäischer Aktionen anlässlich des 48. Jahrestags von Leonard Peltiers Inhaftierung

Am 6.2.2023 jährt sich zum achtundvierzigsten Male der Jahrestag von Leonard Peltiers Inhaftierung. Dies bedeutet, der 78jährige indigene politische Gefangene ist an diesem Tag seit 47 Jahren in Haft und wie die Hinweise zeigen, dies wohl zu unrecht. Analog den Vorjahren finden aus diesem Anlass auch 2023 wieder europaweit Aktionen und Aktivitäten statt. Begonnen hatten wir die Aktionskampagne bereits am 29.12.2022, eben jenes Tages, an dem sich das Massaker der 7. US-Kavallerie an nahezu 300 Lakota in Wounded Knee zum 132 Male jährt. Das erschien uns Anlass genug, um den diesen Tag als Starttag unserer ersten europaweiten Peltier-Kampagne für das Jahr 2023 zu wählen, denn die Tage der Erinnerung bilden eine Brücke zum Hier und Heute. Und in Leonard Peltiers anhaltender Inhaftierung, die sich am 6.2.2023 zum 48 Male jährt (festgenommen wurde Peltier am 6.2.1976 in Kanada) bildet sich die über 500jährige Geschichte von Völkermord, Kolonialisierung, Unterdrückung und Diskriminierung in der Gegenwart mehr als deutlich ab. No, Indian Wars still aren´t over, not in 2022, not in 2023, not in nearest future.

Am 27.Februar 2023, wenn sich die Besetzung des Ortes Wounded Knee durch Indigene und die daraus folgende militärische Belagerung des Ortes durch Nationalgarde, FBI, Polizeieinheiten, GOONS und weißen Milizen zum 50 Male jährt werden die Aktionen einen weiteren wichtigen Termin in die Kampagne aufnehmen. Die beiden Jahrestage zu Wounded Knee bilden für unsere Peltier-Aktion somit eine historische Klammer, um auf das an den Ureinwohner*innen der USA (und ganz Amerikas) begangene und immer noch existierende Morden und Unrecht und dabei auch auf das Schicksal des 78jährigen indigenen politischen Gefangenen Leonard Peltier hinzuweisen. Der Kampf geht weiter: der Kampf für indigene Rechte und Belange, der Kampf um Peltiers Freiheit – und wir als Verein werden in diesem Kampf weiterhin klar zeigen, auf welcher und wessen Seite wir stehen.

6.2.2023 marks the forty-eighth anniversary of Leonard Peltier’s imprisonment. This means that the 78-year-old indigenous political prisoner has been imprisoned for 47 years on this day and, as the evidence shows, probably unjustly. As in previous years, actions and activities will again take place across Europe to mark this occasion in 2023. We had already started the action campaign on 29 December 2022, the very day on which the 7th US Cavalry massacre of almost 300 Lakota at Wounded Knee was 132 years old. This seemed reason enough to us to choose this day as the starting day of our first Europe-wide Peltier campaign for the year 2023, because the days of remembrance form a bridge to the here and now. And Leonard Peltier’s continued imprisonment, which will be 48 years old on 6 February 2023 (Peltier was arrested in Canada on 6 February 1976), more than clearly reflects the 500-year history of genocide, colonisation, oppression and discrimination in the present. No, Indian Wars still aren’t over, not in 2022, not in 2023, not in nearest future.

On 27 February 2023, the 50th anniversary of the Indigenous occupation of Wounded Knee and the ensuing military siege of the site by the National Guard, FBI, police, GOONS and white militias, will be another important date in the campaign. The two anniversaries of Wounded Knee thus form a historical bracket for our Peltier action to draw attention to the murders and injustices committed and still existing against the indigenous people of the USA (and all of the Americas) and thereby also to the fate of the 78-year-old indigenous political prisoner Leonard Peltier. The struggle continues: the struggle for indigenous rights and concerns, the struggle for Peltier’s freedom – and we as an association will continue to clearly show which and whose side we are on in this struggle.
