Rund um den Oglala Commemoration Day (26. Juni), also jenem Tag, an dem vor 47 Jahren jener fatale FBI-Überfall auf ein Schutzcamp des American Indian Movements (AIM) mit dem Tod von drei Personen (der beiden FBI-Agenten Jack Coler und Ronald Williams sowie des AIM-Aktivisten Joe Stuntz) endete und für den AIM-Aktivisten Leonard Peltier (77 Jahre alt) den Beginn einer andauernden 47jährigen Verfolgungs- und Haftgeschichte bedeutete, fanden in Europa in der Zeit vom 17. Juni – 27.Juli 2022 in 5 Staaten und dort in 13 Städten über 20 Aktionen statt. Darüber hinaus gab es Zeitungsanzeigen, Online-Artikel, eine Briefaktion an US-Präsdident Joe Biden sowie zwei YouTube Videoclips. Erneut wurden ca. 500 Postkarten an das Weiße Haus geschickt und Unterschriften für Und alle Aktionen, Veranstaltungen und Aktivitäten hatten europaweit eine Botschaft: Freiheit für Leonard Peltier. Nach 46jähriger Haft für eine Straftat, die ihm nie nachgewiesen wurde und auch nicht nachgewiesen werden kann (und dies weiß das FBI ganz genau), ist es höchste Zeit, dass US-Präsident Joseph Biden Peltier begnadigt, auch wenn eine Begnadigung für einen wahrscheinlich Unschuldigen absurd klingt. Aber es ist höchste Zeit, die Geiselhaft Peltiers zu beenden. Leonard Peltier sitzt in Geiselhaft für viele von uns: Native Americans und generell indigene Aktivistinnen, engagierte Kämpferinnen sozialer Bewegungen, Umweltaktivistinnen, Menschenrechtlerinnen, daher: no matter how, but now – free Leonard Peltier.

Around the Oglala Commemoration Day (June 26th), the day on which 47 years ago the fatal FBI raid on a protection camp of the American Indian Movement (AIM) ended with the death of three persons (the two FBI agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams as well as the AIM activist Joe Stuntz) and for the AIM activist Leonard Peltier (77 years old) meant the beginning of an ongoing 47-year history of persecution and imprisonment, more than 20 actions took place in Europe in the period from June 17th to July 27th 2022. June – 27.July 2022 in 5 states and there in 13 cities over 20 actions took place. In addition, there were newspaper ads, online articles, a letter campaign to U.S. President Joe Biden, and two YouTube video clips. Once again, about 500 postcards were sent to the White House and signatures for And all actions, events and activities had one message across Europe: Freedom for Leonard Peltier. After 46 years of imprisonment for a crime that has never been proven and cannot be proven against him (and the FBI knows this very well), it is high time that US President Joseph Biden pardons Peltier, even if a pardon for a probably innocent man sounds absurd. But it is high time to end Peltier’s hostage-taking. Leonard Peltier is held hostage for many of us: Native Americans and indigenous activists in general, committed fighters of social movements, environmental activists, human rights activists, therefore: no matter how, but now – free Leonard Peltier.
